Question:
when does the stomach aches stop?
I am entering my third week postop and always get stomach aches, diarhea, and feel lousy. I finally figured out how little to consume and am sick of the puree diet but am sticking to it. Help. — elaine27 (posted on December 30, 2002)

Hey Darlene - I know you feel lousy right now but I promise you it gets
better. Most of the problems I experienced in the beginning disappeared in
the first month or so. You may find that drinking cold things might give
you a stomach ache and diarhea. I know you're probably sick of hearing
this but your stomach is still healing- it's been through a lot! Most of
the problems I had in keeping food down related to my not knowing how much
to eat and eating too fast, etc. Hang in there and I'm sure you'll notice
that you're able to keep things down better and the bad days will get less
frequent. You've got a lot to look forward to and you're definitely not
alone! - Mike

Hi! I'm 2 days from being 3 weeks out. I just wanted to ask if you are
drinking milk? I used to drink milk ALL the time, but now it makes me feel
icky. And are you watching the sugar content for EVERYTHING that you eat? I
get an instant stomache ache and the poops if I eat something with a high
sugar content, like yogurt. As for pureed food, it suck! LOL! I've been
taking tiny bites of things, and chewing them until they are liquid, and
"pureeing" things that way, for the most part. I was told that if
you can puree it, you can eat it. I have to stay away from nuts and seeds,
sugar and fat, other than that, I have eaten whatever I want.

Just to chime in about Diana's comment, I had a lot of trouble with milk
right after also, but I think it had to do with it being cold. I also had
difficulty with cold water. Now I drink about 2 glasses of milk each day
and it's not a problem. Time seems to make these things a lot better.
