Question:
How long before you can quit crushing your pills? Surgery 12/10/02

After they tried to give me crushed pills in the hospital after surgery
(Oct. 8, 2002, LAP-RNY, down 60..yes....) I refused to take them. I
"negotiated" with them to call the doctor. Percocet in a
non-crushed form is acceptable, crushed ones were NOT. Then they said
anything bigger than a M and M is not to be taken whole. I took a vitamin
from week 2 (Centrum) and take Vitamins B and C as well.
See what works for you. Good luck.

I was taking whole pills in the hospital and take about 6 every morning
since (one at a time) I have never had a problem. Good luck!

I've been taking whole pills since day five. No problems... You'll know
what your new tummy can tolerate as soon as you swallow. If it feels to
"heavy" going down or settling in your pouch, then wait a little
longer for some healing. Good luck! Open RNY 4/29/02 -122

Lap RNY 10/29/02. Never crushed any pills. I did switch to chewable
vitamins, but as soon as these are gone, I will go back to Centrum. I was
prescribed a liquid pain med for home after surgery.

I can't say I've ever crushed a pill. They gave me Excedrin Migraine in
the hospital, uncrushed. I also took Tylenol capsules for pain from the
time I got out of the hospital. Haven't had any problems. I do have to
say, though, is there a reason why Calcium Citrate has to be so huge? LOL

the hospital. what i can say is if it has a break line on it i do break
them in half but i gulp them all down at once, that's six at one time. best

Hi there, Pam! I never had to crush any of my pills and didn't have to
take anything liquid, well minus my cough syrup, when I had a cold
recently. Didn't have any trouble with any of them. I do take the
chewables, but that is per my doctor's orders. Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down

Pam, I had my Lap RNY on 12/05/02 and have never had to crush my pills. The
Dr did tell me though to take one and wait at least 15 to 20 minutes in
between pills. If you think one is too big and you can split it, you can
take 1/2 and then the other 1/2 within minutes though. Good Luck Nancy Poe

I bought a mortar and pestle to crush my pills with. YUCK!! I almost got
sick everytime I tried to take them. Same with the liquid form of some of
the vitamins (shudder). I am taking 6 pills in the morning, all at once,
and have had no problem. I decided a stuck pill was worth the pain, rather
than making myself sick. Best of luck to you.

I have never crushed pills either, but then I didn't start taking any until
I was about 4 months post-op. I was hospitalized all that time and got
pretty much everything via IV. However, once I could start taking pills, I
have taken them whole or broker/split in half for the big ones. I can't
take them with water any more, but find that if I take a bite of SF Jello
or yogurt, then pop the pill in, they will slide right down.

my doctor reccomends that you wait until you are three months post op
before you start swallowing pills

I wish I was as lucky as all the other posters! Every since my
surgery(10/17/02) I have had to crush my pills and even that didnt mean I
wasnt going to lose them. I can only take 3 kinds of pills without losing
them. I have switched over to shots for everything else or those that
disolve under the tongue.
