It is a well known side affect of surgery. Most of us went through it. There is not alot that you can do, however what you eat & take (supplements, vitamins) will affect it in about three months from now...... If you were good with protein (60-100 grams a day) since surgery etc. you should start to see a turnaround soon. I also took Biotin- heard that would help. Try throwing in a prenatal, or start drinking gelatin (jello) disolved in water.

I also lost a LOT of my hair! I had my hairdresser give me a perm and a highlight. That helped "make" more hair for me, thank goodness. I did get desperate enough to look at wigs, but I decided to wait it out, and now my hair is actually thicker, go figure. I also have very thin baby fine hair. Get your hair cut in to a perky style if you can. Best of luck to you.

add extra zinc to your supplements. That helped me, even when the biotin did not.

I don't have any suggestions for you unfortunately. There seem to be very mixed feelings among post ops about whether anything works at all or if you just have to wait it out. I defintely wouldn't buy anything pricey though since it may or may not even help. I have baby fine hair as well. I am 5 months out and have had no signs of any hair loss..so I was hoping maybe I wouldn't get it. Your post made me realize I am not out of the woods yet. Ah well, a small price to pay I guess. Good luck !

I started losing hair at around 6 months. I'm now nearly 15 months post-op and it's slowed down considerably. I tried all the precautions: extra zinc, biotin, flaxseed oil, increased protein, etc but, nothing seemed to help. Two months ago my hairdresser talked me into trying the Nioxin products and they seem to have helped alittle.

I am almost 8 months post-op and have never lost any hair. I focus on taking 3 chewable Centrum vitamins/day, B-12, Calcium, Biotin and try to get in 90-100 gms of protien a day. Not sure what it is, but must be doing something right.

Hi. I too have lost a considerable amount of hair. I am almost 6 months post op and the hair loss has seemed to slow down. My hairdresser cut bangs for me and it gives the appreance of more hair.

My Doctor had me increase my protein and added zinc to my daily vitamin regime - 250 mgs/day! He explained that the hair loss is due to protein and zinc deficiencies, so the extra zinc helped stopy the loss in its tracks!

Sorry, I don't know what to recommend. My hair started coming out at 3 months post-op. I am now 5.5 months post-op and it is finally starting to slow down but some does still come out when I brush it and when I wash it. Now I have a gazillion 1/2 inch long little sprouts all over the top of my head! This should be interesting as it grows in. I'm guessing my next move will be to find some frizz-be-gone stuff for my sprouts when they get longer. Good luck. :o)

Go to your hairdresser and ask for a short, cute doo. I did this when my falling hair became noticeable to me, and I got so many compliments on my short hair that I have continued to wear the shorter doo even tho my hair is growing back nicely.

When the hair loss hits... we all look for something to take to stop it... and when it stops in a month or two we give credit to the crap we bought at the health food store when in fact the hair loss just ran its course. People who take every home remedy known to mankind have the same span of loss as people who do nothing. If we had a group of people who rubbed goat poop on their heads they would have the same period of loss as the people who use Nioxin, biotin and zinc... SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A GREAT SHORTER CUT TO SHOW OFF YOUR COLLARBONES! Some people dont have hair loss at all... the stress of surgery and anesthesia effects all of us at different levels. Dont worry about the hair loss... none of us have gone bald as far as I know.

NIOXIN! Get Nioxin cleanser and hair treatment!! It REALLY works. My hair was falling out in handfulls until I started using the Nioxin and it is now growing back!! You can feel it tingling on the scalp too. You can't get it at regular stores. You will have to go to a specialty haircare place or beauty shop. GOOD LUCK!!

My hair started falling out at 3 months post op. I am now 4 1/2 months and it seems to be slowing down. I use the Nexxus Vitatress shampoo and reconstructor. It has biotin in it. I don't know if that's what is helping, but it definately improved the condition of my hair!

I made an appointment with my Dermatologist to talk about this, as well as how dry my skin had become post-op. She prescribed cream and a scrub that I've been using on my face for about six months--I definitely see improvement. As for the hair loss (mine is also blonde and baby-fine), her recommendations were biotin, zinc, and continuing with the prenatal vitamins that my GP had already prescribed. My insurance company had no problem paying for the visits to her nor for the prescription products, as these symptoms are considered surgical side effects necessitating blood work's being done to insure the proper vitamin and mineral balance...especially important for malabsoptive, surgical patients.
