Question:
My legs feel like jello- 2 months post-op
I was diagnosed with chronic daily headaches, have had this migraines 24 hours a day that is excruciating and debilitating since April. I also have severe muscle spasms. I am 2 months post-op LAP RNY and have lost over 45 pounds, which I am extremely happy about, but i was bed-ridden for 8 days about 2 weeks ago (had spinal tap, then blood patch). And now i don't get to exercise much. I get about 60 grams of protein in a day and get anywhere from 75-100 ounces of water. My legs feel like jello. I feel weak. I am also on quite a few medications. i sometimes feel like when i walk, i'll tumble over. Does anyone else ever feel like this? — Lezlie Y. (posted on July 29, 2002)

Is that 60g a day in protein SUPPLEMENT? Where are your iron & B12
levels? Even though it's early, because you feel so lousy, have you had a
full blood work up yet? Does your surgeon and/or regular doc know you feel
so lousy?

Lezlie, I agree with what Michelle wrote. I do want to add..What other
meds. are you taking? What are their side effects? I know that some blood
pressure meds. and some anti-depressants carry these side effects. And I
have heard that some hormonal drugs for thyroid (synthroid) and HRT (kind
of a no, no now) can too. Check with the pharmacist. Your dosages may
need to be adjusted (ie: blood pressure may be normal now and you don't
need as much or any meds. for it now). Talk to your doc ASAP about it. As
for the migraines, they seem to be a medical mystery. If you are on an Rx
for that, that could be the side effect culprit. I think they dilate the
vessels in your head/brain which may make you feel a little weird. Good
luck, and congrats. on the loss.

hi,i'm the poster. I actually am eating most of my protein, i pretty much
hate all the supplements. I'm not on any blood pressure meds. I am seeing
my neurologist today, so I will mention this to him today. I am getting my
first blood work done in about 2 weeks. I am religious though about taking
all of my vitamins, multi, b-12, calcium, etc, so i'm not sure what it can
be. Thanks for the posts, and if anyone else has any ideas, let me know! :)

Lexlie, I think part of the reason you feel weak is that you are not using
your muscles. spending 8 days in bed about 2 weeks ago, and admitting you
don't get to exercise much is part of the problem. Force yourself to walk
at least 20 minutes a day, climb some stairs, get some hand weights, and
start building up some muscle. also, as the others suggested, check your
iron and B-12 levels.

Hi! I see you've had several very good answers, but I wanted to suggest one
more. Are you experiencing tingling and numbness in your legs, not just
weakness? Are you unable to determine heat or cold on your legs too? If so,
then that's my problem too. My surgeon think I have a thiamine deficiency
(B1) from rapid weight loss and trauma. I do get injections fo thiamine,
but haven't noticed any improvement. I was told this may continue until I
stop losing weight and my body stabilizes. Good luck! I hope it gets worked
out!
