It's not a question of finding an insurance policy that will cover WLS,
it's a question of finding an individual policy that will TAKE YOU. No
insurance company that sells individual policies will accept even mildly
obese people, or most of our pre-existing conditions (sleep apnea,
diabetes, HBP, etc) and they don't have to. Only true group insurance HAS
to take you and all of your pre-existing conditions. True group is only
available when you go to work for a company that carries insurance for it's
employees. I am pretty sure this is the case in all the states, but I KNOW
it is true in Texas and Louisiana, because I am in the business here.
Sorry for the bad news. Best of luck to you!

I don't know about Texas or Louisianna but here in Oklahoma there is a high
risk pool and you can't be turned down based on medical conditions. You
might see if there is a high risk pool in either of those states.

First, you'd have to actually find an insurance carrier that would accept
you. With individual insurance, you'd have to go through medical
underwriting before being approved for coverage. Obesity, even mild, would
be a cause for denial of coverage. The only plans that may accept you with
medical issues would probably be individual HMO's or individual Medical
Savings plans. I would suggest checking w/an insurance broker or agent in
your area. Not only can they help you find coverage, but they can also
advise you of any alternative plans in your State.
