Question:
Is there anyone else who is 2 months out and only lost 45 pounds
I will be two months out on 5/15/02 and have only lost 38 pounds so far and I am hoping to lose 45 pounds at leat by 5/15/02. What am I doing wrong sometimes I really cannot tell when I am full and I have to make myself stop eating. Could it be possible that I have stretched my pouch back to its regular size already. I can eat more than I should before feeling full. Please help — Mae P. (posted on May 6, 2002)

There is no way to have stretched your pouch back to normal size. You do
gradually start eating more, but not to where you were before surgery.
Maybe it just seems like you are eating more because in the beginning you
eat 2 bites and you're full. Your weight loss is just fine so relax. I
lost 40 by my 2 month appointment. I think that I saw that you were a
lightweight too. You won't lose as fast as some do on here, and that can
be hard, so don't compare yourself to them. I see many that lose 100 by 6
months. I have lost 75 by six months and I am really proud of that because
I started as a lightweight also. Remember too that although you will lose
at a slower pace, the good news is that you will reach goal much quicker.
I am only 27 lbs. to goal. Enjoy every moment of this. Don't spend your
time worrying so much, you will do just fine.

At two months I was down 38 pounds. That is totally normal for a
"lightweight". I am just a bit over 5 months out and am down 65.
It does get depressing when you read about people who can lose 65 in two
months but you really can't compare yourself to others who have more to
lose. It sounds to me like you are right on schedule for your size.

Just a question. Have you ever lost 45 lbs in 2 months before? Really that
is not bad at all. I am 9 weeks out and down 62 lbs. But I am a man,
started at a BMI of 63-436 lbs. I see you started at around 260, so the
less you have to loose, the slower you will loose. I would just keep up the
good work and focus on the positive. Do you notice how loose your old
clothes are getting? In no time you will be loosing even more. Sounds like
you are doing great. Good Luck and keep up the good work.

Looks like we are doing fine. I am 9 weeks out and 45 pounds down. Looks
like a lot of other people too. I was afraid as well. I was worried I was
doing something wrong. I even work out! Hang in there your doing great!
I feel much better though. I am sure you do too!

Bessie, after 2 months that's almost exactly what I had lost. The worst
part for me is that I hit a plateau very early. I lost that 45 in the first
month, and then didn't lose a pound over the 2nd month. Thankfully I broke
out of it and lost another 25 pounds in my 3rd month.

I am 10 weeks and have lost 40 pounds. It is slower than I expected but it
is comming off! I have to keep reminding myself that I didn't put it on
overnight either. I have a difficult time getting in enough food. Some
days I only get in 300-400 calories, I just started adding protein shakes
for added calories and protein. I figure that my metabolism may have
slowed down from too few calories...may have gone into starvation mode
where the body trys to hold onto fat. I have lost some weight every week.
Make sure you get in your water. Also, increase physical activity (I find
that difficult to motivate myself to do) Keep up the good work!

Bessie, That's an average of 5 pounds a week weight loss!! That's
tremendous!! Your losing at just the right rate. Be happy!! When have
you ever lost an average of 5 pounds a week and KEPT it off?? I lost about
the same amount of weight as you have in the same time period.

Bessie - We could be twins. I had my surgery on 3/5/02 and started at 270.
9 weeks later I'm down 43.5 lbs. While not as fast as I had hoped, the
inches are really coming off, so I'm happy. I've lost over 45 inches since
the 5th. I exercise about 4 times a week and have noticed my loss is
usually smaller if I work out, but my inches don't move at all if I don't.
I'll keep exercising! After all, I've been lying about my weight for
years, so why stop now? If I look like I'm lighter, who cares what the
scale says? You're doing great. Like someone else said, when was the last
time you lost 40 lbs in 2 months? :)

Bessie, you're doing great! I started at 262 and am now down to 227 and I
will be 2 months post-op on Saturday (5/11). From everything I've read,
it's not probable that you've stretched out your pouch at this early a
time. I can relate to how you feel about not being able to tell when
you're full. Some days are just like that for me, also...but then the next
week, I'll get "full" off of the tiniest bites. Hope this helps
to let you know that I think you're doing just fine and..your weightloss
WILL CONTINUE. Don't worry..be happy!!

At 2 months out I had lost 38 lbs, and I wasn't even as light as you. I'm
hoping to have lost 50 by the 3 month mark, and I think I might fall just
shy. :(

Hi, I will be 3mths post-op on 5/7/02 and I have lost 58lbs and I also have
the same feeling yesterday I was home from work and eat every 2hrs. My
girlfriend also had the surgery 2 days before me and lost 85lbs. So I also
don't know what I am doing wrong.

Bessie,
I am also at the same place!! I had open RNY on 3-7-02 and have only lost
around 45lbs. I realize that because we are considered
"lightweights" we won't be losing as fast, but I thought for sure
I would've reached the 50 lb mark by my 2 month anniversary. I have been
following my surgeons directions for only 3 meals daily and exercising
atleast 3 times per week, but my loss seems to be slowing considerably. I
don't have any answers (obviously) but I thought I would write you if for
no other reason than to let you know YOU AREN'T ALONE.

I had surgery 6/15/01 and at two months I had only lost 40 lbs. By
December (6) months I had lost a total of 110, Since December I have lost
another 33 lbs and wish I had 15 back. In total, i lost 143, which in
looking in the mirror I lost too much. Take your time. Your body will
lose what it needs to lose, don't be in a hurry and you will reap the
benefits of a healthier life.

I started at 314 on 02/14/02 (Open RNY). Eight weeks out I was only down
about 42 pounds. I drink about 100 ounces of water a day, drink a protein
supplement every morning, eat four small protein intense meals per day
(NEVER eat pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, sweets, or fried foods) walk
almost five miles a day about 5 days/week. I am coming up on three months
in one week and with all of my hard work and my 180cm bypass would've liked
to have been down 75-80 pounds by then, but that's just not going to
happen. I've adjusted my goal to 64 lbs which would bring me to an even
250. I am still not 100% sure that I'll even make that! But, all in all I
feel great so, except for once in a while, I try not to think of it as slow
and simply think of it as the fantastic thing that it is! 60 pounds in
less than three months isn't so bad!

You are doing incredibly well I am 6 months out and have only lost 50
pounds. I stay hungry it seems. An hour after I eat I am hungry again. I
know that I will always have to diet just like I did before the
surgery...the only difference is now I can no longer eat a whole cake at
once.
