Question:
what if i have h pylori and don't take the antibodics the doctor gave me?

i'm allergic to penicillin so the doctor had to give me substitutes to cure it. 4000 mg per day of antibodics and they are making me nausased (even with reglan)and i can't take my vitiams or protein drink (made with milk) within certain amounts of time. what happens if i quit taking the antibotics?    — Connie S. I had the same problem, but did finish taking hte meds. I think it all depends on the HPylori itself. Sometimes taking the meds for 1 week will kill it, ometimes the stuff is completely immune to the treatments and more testing has to be done to determine a new plan of action in ridding you of the stuff. I know that if you do not get rid of it, you could develop ulcers or if you already have them, they could get worse. You should do your best to finish it up, but if you can't talk with your doctor and see what he says.

H Pylori can be a very tricky bacteria to get rid of. I have been throught the treatment 2 times. This was before surgery. Back then I had no major problems w/reflux or burning. My major problem was severe diareah right after eating and that cleared up after the treatment. Now I am 8 weeks post op and I am having reflux and burning. I am worried that the H pylori is back and that this time it will lead or has already lead to an ulcer. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow and hopefully will find out something soon. I really hated those pills but the 2nd time i thought I learned my lesson and took them all. If you are nauseated...try taking some liquid maalox to coat your pouch before you take the pills. Best of luck to you.

You need to follow your DR orders! Call him and find out if there is an alternitive. If you discontinue you need to make him FULLY AWARE that you did. If you don't get rid of those nasty bacteria you may run into complications dow the road with ulcers. Be brave and take the pills.--- Good Luck
