Question:
Any advice for my Psych eval, what is an MMPI-2 test?
Also any thing about the MCMI-III? These are two types of Psych tests I will be evaluated on. I am very nervous! Any input can help. Thanks! — Kristee (posted on January 31, 2002)

Hi there. I'm a clinical psychologist in training and routinely administer
these tests. My advice to you is to just be honest. The MMPI-2 is
true/false, about 565 questions and has a way of detecting if you are lying
or trying to "fake good" so the best thing you can do is be
honest. Nothing to worry about, no big secrets... the test is straight
forward. The MCMI is another version of the MMPI that looks for more
severe disorders... again just be honest. Good luck! YOu will do fine!

Hi, I'm 3 years postop and just the other day took a look at my pshyc eval
from preop (I personally keep all my records as well as the doctor having
them). The eval came back saying I was not deceptive and answered honestly
to the questions. It also gave an evaluation of my personality. IT WAS
RIGHT ON THE MONEY. Boy was it ever accurate. Had me to a "T".
Please don't try and fool the test. Somehow, like the previous poster
said, they can tell. good luck it was a cinch.

The true/false test was the biggest load of crap I have ever seen. I see
why tons of crazy people get right pass. It asks you to check true or false
to these ridiculous questions. Examples: "Do you think people are out
to get you?" True or false? Duh----false. "Do you think you can
control others with your mind? True or false? Duh---false. Some are more
subtle, but any one with an iota of sense will appear sane. Don't lie and
check the direct opposite of what you feel, but don't be crazy and check
true for things that you know scream, "crazy, crazy". I do think
people can be out to get you alot of times, but I sure didnt check that on
the test. Also--the questions are given in groups--so you can see the ones
that are trying to detect paraniod charactersitics, or lack of social
skills, etc. they are all grouped together and you get a score for each
area.

I am with Barbara on this - my MMPI was dead on, it was so eerie,
especially since i had never really talked to the person who was reading it
back to me. I felt like it was someone reading my mind or a diary I had
never written. I want a copy to send to my mom. I have a friend who took
one as part of a family medical study and it gave him all kinds of negative
things, he was very unhappy. About 2 years later we found out he had OCD,
a personality disorder and schizophrenia. He was able to hide it for a
long time, then the dam broke. He covered it up with anger issues. I do
know that the test in these cases is not always so accurate. A lot of what
they are looking for IS deception, so don't lie! They ask the same
pattern of questions over and over to see how you answer.
