Question:
I seem to plateau for the 2 weeks after my period but loose a ton during it. WHY?

This seems to be the topic today. LOL. But I have been wondering why this happens to me, and I know it happens to a few others. See, I will loose weight, say 4-6 pounds a week for the week of and the week after my period, but in the middle of my cycle, nothing, nada, ZIP! Prior to surgery, I would be the opposite.. gain 4-6 pounds during. I do eat a ton more during my period, but do get enough in afterwards. I am 5 1/2 months post op RnY Proximal. Just curious, thats all. At least I still lose roughly 10 pounds a month, but I sure miss those weekly losses, you know?! Even a pound or two. Any thoughts as to why? Thanks a bunch!!    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 23, 2002)

I'm going through the same thing. I'm dropping 10-14lbs per month, but the scales won't budge the week or two after my periods. I suspect it's those wonderful hormones playing tricks on us, and have begun taking my husband's advise to lay off the scales and focus on eating right and exercizing. I now only weigh myself once a month and that way I'm happy with the results and don't sweat the small stuff!

Absolutely happens to me every month! I noticed at about 3-4 mos post (I'm 8 mos and down 100+). No matter what I do (for instance, I cut out all white carbs -- potatoes, bread etc... -- still only losing during the cycle). I had a theory that we retain water during our cycle and drinking more water might do something about that. But that really doesn't make a bit of sense. Prior to surgery I didn't even have a cycle (very sporadic). Now I get it every 28 days like clockwork. And usually 5 pounds before, 5 pounds during or directly afterward. I usually know when IT is coming because I'll see some weight loss. Amazing huh? And I exercise at least 4 days a week, do 3 protein shakes a day...the only thing I don't do that well is get in more than 32 oz of water daily. Some days I can get the whole 64, other days it's either just 32 or maybe I'll get in 48. Perhaps it's the water??? Would you like to privately email me and maybe we can do some experimentation to see if it actually moves the scale? Not to say that I'm not grateful that the scale is indeed moving. But I too miss the weekly pound drops. (Never satisfied are we!?! LOL) Good luck and God Bless!
