Question:
Is the JP drain left in for leak reasons?

My doctor leaves the JP drain in for 1 week. Does anyone know the function of this drain? Is it in case you have a leak? Any response would be appreciated.    — Carol L. (posted on December 3, 2001)

It can indicate a leak but its main job is to drain excess liquids so your body doesnt have to deal with them, which helps faster healing. Itsa pain in the neck but doesnt last long.
