Question:
ARE THERE ANY OUT THERE IN THEIR 60S WHO HAVE HAD THIS SURGERY?
HELLO EVERYONE! I AM WONDERING IF I CAN TALK TO PATIENTS WHO ARE OR WERE IN THEIR 60s WHEN HAVING THIS SURGERY. I WOULD BE GRATEFUL TO KNOW THERE IS MORE THAN JUST ME HAVING THIS AT AN OLDER AGE. MY BODY IS OLD BUT HIS MIND SURE IS NOT. THANKS — judie P. (posted on July 22, 2001)

Hi Julie,
I was 57 when I had my surgery last year. The lady that turned me on to the
surgery was in her late 60's when she had it done. She is in her 80's now
and looks great. She was the oldest patient to have it done at that time.
They put her in the hospital for a week prior to surgery so that they could
moniter her.
Now it's done all the time on older patients like us. She is the one that
told me she was the first. I don't know if that was just in the Phx area
or all over.

I had surgery in Feb. I am 59, also had gallbladder removed at the same
time. Was in the hospital for 2 days following surgery. Back to work 13
days after surgery. No complications, best thing I have ever done for
myself.

I had open rny in May this year at age 61. So far all is going well
concerning the surgery. I am noticing my skin is getting loose and by th
time I loose down to my goal weight, I am not sure how I will look. So far
I have lost 46 lbs. That is slower than the younger people but I am happy
with it. I am not able to exercise much at all. I hope that helps your
concern. I went through the same thing before I decided on surgery., I
looked and looked at the support groups for older people to talk to. Mary
