Question:
Does anyone have info/stats on life expectancy after WLS??
I *know* that life expectancy of being obese is shorter than not being obese, but I'm looking for info specifically about life expectancy AFTER WLS. Thanks in advance! — careywatkins (posted on June 20, 2001)

I can't give you the exact statistics BUT.... it seems to me that if you
didn't die during the operation or shortly after (from complications - and
it is rare) then loosing the weight would mean loosing many of your
comorbidities which would mean you would live longer. If I loose the weight
and don't have sleep apnea anymore then my life expectancy goes back up
because I no longer have a breathing disorder. Did you mean will I have any
life threatening complications further on down the road? Like a staple line
rupture or lack of vitamins ect.... and the answer to that is different for
each individual. I know where you are coming from because I have asked
myself that same question - but I really don't think there is any one
answer. Sorry:(
