Question:
Do we absorb all of the calories we eat?
Does anyone know how many calories are passing through unabsorbed because of the surgery? — Laura R. (posted on June 5, 2001)

As Barb said it depends on the length of the bypass. I have a very short
RNY bypass, about 1-2 feet. My doctor said that I absorb all of the
calories I eat. I am not sure that this isn't an oversimplified answer but
I do know it is very different from the distal or long bypass where there
is definitely some malabsorption of calories.
