Question:
Getting junk e-mail regarding weight loss since signing up to obestiy.com
Since I have become a member of obesityhelp.com, I have started to receive junk e-mail for all kinds of weight loss programs, everything from pills to equipment. It makes me angry that they do this. I don't blame the site, just curious if anyone else is getting this junk. Thanks — Gail M. (posted on May 20, 2001)

I have received two e mails over the last few days. Both from the same
company. I don't know if they are from this site or the diet help group
I've sign on to. I emailed them back and told them to take me off the list.

I forward everything to my ISP and let their abuse unit deal with it. We
get some of the most outrageous stuff, all of it unsolicited, that I just
automatically forward everything that I know we don't want.

There is someplace on the site - I forget exactly where, I want to say it's
one of the surveys or something, that says our email addresses may be made
available to organizations in our area (geographic?) related to weight loss
surgery, etc. I've received a few...I just deleted them since I already
have a surgeon. They haven't bothered me again.

Been on this site since 1998 and have not received ONE wt loss spam, so I
suspect your source might be elsewhere. I get plenty of SPAM, usually to
refinance my home at a much higher rate (?), but nothing on wt loss.

Most e-mail providers collect information of us. That could be the source.
For example, you are looking at your email and then decide to cruise the
web and check out weight loss sites -- well, they can collect info on where
you go on your computer then send you information based on that. I don't
know exactly how this works, but it does. Yahoo clearly states that they
collect information of us. Hope this helps.

I'm a member of Yahoo, when I signed up for one of their support groups
they told me they were adding "weight loss" as an interest in my
Yahoo profile. Then I got invitations from Yahoo people to join things I'm
thoroughly against. I had to figure out how to remove that
"interest" because the e-diet ads are bad enough without targeted
email. I'll echo what others below said, I've never received something I
thought was tied to the AMOS website.

YES! I started getting them exactly 2 days after I signed up at Obesity
Help. I never received them before that. Now I get several every day and I
haven't signed up for other sites so I know it originated from this site.
Most of them are diet (lose weight fast) emails.
Sorry your getting them too.
