Question:
How dangerous is vomiting after Open RNY transected surgery?
I take a medicine (an absolute must) which makes me vomit. I will still have to take it after surgery. How dangerous will this be to me? I am really worried about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. — [Anonymous] (posted on April 25, 2001)

Talk w/ your surgeon.. that sounds terrible. Is there some other way you
can take it.. or get a antinausea suppository to help you keep it down? If
you puke are you keeping the med in anyway? Also if it makes you sick
now.. so many surgeriers say meds need to be ground up wonder if that will
make it worse?

I had a vomiting problem during my first few weeks post-op. No one really
ever figured out what had caused it. It didn't do any known harm to my
RnY, but I did end up with a really big incisional hernia that I had to
have surgically repaired several months later. I would definitely
recommend finding a way to stop the vomiting before your surgery. Good
Luck!
