Terry,
You don't say what your BMI is, but I just had my surgery (2/9/01) and I
have Tricare standard. It is part of our benefit to have this surgery, but
you do need to qualify. You have to be 100 pounds over weight with at least
one co-morbidity OR be 200% over your ideal weight (meaning if you are
suppose to weigh 140 (according to the Met Life chart it is on line) then
you have to weigh at least 280 now to qualify). I used the 200% route and
they approved in two days. You do not have to have pre-certification for
your first visit either. JUST make sure the doctor is in your network!!
email me if you have any more questions!! [email protected] Hugs Jann Here
is a webpage that gives you the TriCare policy on the surgery

have been so nervous about the approval process. I Have a bmi of 45.
Anyways thanks, Susan

I wanted to add my Tricare experience. The policy of being 100 lbs with a
co-morbitity or 200% of body weight is correct. I am Tricare Standard (or
Standard Champus), and husband is active duty Navy. I may be an out of the
ordinary case, but I was approved within a matter of hours!!!! From what I
have heard from other people requesting approval, Tricare has been great.

3/15/03 - Tricare Standard approved me in 48 hours. I am retired from the
Navy and live in the Tampa Bay area. No problems at all.
