Question:
Do you have to use a CIGNA 'In-Network' doctor
If it has to be a network doctor can anyone recommend one in North Texas / Dallas area. Thanks — Keith W. (posted on November 27, 2000)

I had CIGNA PPO at the time of my surgery, and I used an out-of-network
surgeon. Since the surgeon was not on their PPO list, they only approved
my surgery at a 60/40 payment rate. But, since my policy had a yearly
out-of-pocket maximum of $3,000, I didn't really have to pay 40% of my
surgery cost. I paid $3,000 all total, and the insurance paid everything
else 100%. So, read your insurance policy carefully. See what it says
about going out-of-network, and especially see if you have a yearly
out-of-pocket maximum or stop-loss limit. <br> If you want to try to
go to an in-network surgeon, look up all the surgeons in your region here
on this site, and on the asbs.org site. Once you have their names, you can
go to the CIGNA PPO list online and see if those names are listed. Since
CIGNA doesn't list bariatric surgeons separately (they are listed under
general surgeons), that would be the easiest way to find them. Feel free
to write if you have other questions about this carrier.

I also have Cigna and went in network. They approved in one week. My
surgeon is not listed as a WLS surgeon. My surgeon does regular surgerys
along with WLS surgery and comes highly recommended. You should call some
of the surgeons on your list and find out if they do this type of surgery.
You might be surprised at what you will find.
