I seem to have a fair amount of gas. Almost oderless, but never the less there. Also I have a BM every 3 days that is very loose and accompanied with a lot of gas. Inbetween BM's I often feel like I need to go but don't, just more gas. Normal???    — Kevin K. (posted on September 17, 2000)

Ah Melanie, you are a riot. Wind Gap, Pa. I (kevin), Melanie is right, it just takes a while for things to calm down. And since you are mostly on liquids to start, you should experience loose bowls. Remember, no pops, carbonated beverages, and no drinking through a straw, as this will add , air or gas to your new healing tummy. Good luck. Carin

Yes it is normal..My friend had the surgery back in October of 99 and he had alot of gas as well and the doctor that did the sugery told him that it was normal to have alot of gas...

Gas is a minor problem for me 1-1/4 years post-op. I have recently used GAS-X and it works like a champ. If I have more carbs than usual for dinner I eat and then I use GAS-X and no more gas or a lot less than if I had not. The key is to watch what causes it and be ready. If you are early on post-op keep an eye (and ear and nose) out for what could be the culprit. Good luck...
