Question:
I am pre op and my liver function test came back elevated.

I do not know yet what the problem is. Can any one tell me if they had elevated liver function test and if it prevented them from having surgery. My PCP is going to do more lab work on Monday to check for Hepatitis.    — Glenda E. (posted on May 27, 2000)

Hi - My husband and I are just now looking into the surgery, so I can't be certain that this would have anything to do with your situation or not.. HOWEVER... because he has always had a problem with acid reflux, he has had to take things like Pepcid AC, Xantac, etc.. and it always drives up his liver levels. Some people are just like that. The first time the doctor detected it on his blood tests, she scared us to death and told us that he may have hepatitis, but it turned out that it was just him taking so much Pepcid AC for the acid. So be sure to ask your doctor about that :) Hope all goes well for you!

Hi, I too have elevated liver enzymes and have gone through all of the tests. They too had me scared that it was hepatitis A, B or C. Anyway they came back negative and they attribute it to fatty liver disease, which they say that this surgery will help elliviate or at least help it. I would recommend not to worry. I also have acid reflux and am on Prevacid, but my doc's never said anything about it increasing my liver enzymes. It is a thought though.
