Question:
I would like some pre-op advice from post op members beyond exercise and vitamins
I would like to ask post surgical members what they would have done before surgery if given the chance again? I want to go into surgery healthy and strong, not sure how much time I have until surgery but assume at least 2 months....thanks! — Donna P. (posted on May 23, 2000)

If you are diabetic, it's important to have your sugar under control. If
it is totally out of control, your surgeon may postpone the surgery. Also,
well controlled sugar contributes substantially to post-op healing.

Hello, How are you doing? I think that you should take all neccessary
Vitamins and Mineral Supplements now and also start drinking the protein
shakes. You can also try eating the liquids and puree foods for a week to
get the fell of what to expect after the surgery. Also try to eat fat-free
and Sugar-free foods. This is probably not an answer to your question but,
I think everyone should do these things before Surgery.

If I had my pre-op days to do over again, I would not try to eat everything
in town during the weeks/months up to my surgery. I was so miserable by the
time my surgery rolled around! I had taken a food tour of everything I ever
thought about eating. The crazy thing is that I thought I would never eat
normal food again, which is of course not the case. By eating so much I
aggravated my GERD and arthritis also. So, have a good-bye meal or two, but
not 60 days' worth! Good luck on your surgery.
