I had intestinal bypass surgery (jejunoileal bypass) in 1979. I gave birth
to a daughter in 1986. I used Dr. Phillip Walton at Henderson-Walton
Women's Center at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Mine was
a high-risk pregnancy, primarily due to my blood pressure problems. My
daughter was considered low birth weight at 5 lbs. 5 oz. but was perfectly
healthy. I only gained 10 pounds throughout the pregnancy and, when I gave
birth, lost 27...so I came out better in the end! I felt absolutely
wonderful throughout the whole pregnancy although I was put to bed rest in
my seventh month due to blood pressure problems. My daughter is now 13
years old and the picture of health and beautiful, too. Dr. Walton
recommended that I have no other children, for a combination of
reasons...my blood pressure, my age then (31), and the pregnancy being
high-risk.
