Question:
HAS ANYONE HAD THE HOSPITAL CANCEL SURGERY BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T GETTING ENOUGH MONEY?

THE HOSPITAL IS A PROVIDER WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY BUT THEY SAY THEY AREN'T GETTING ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE SURGERY. SO THEY CANCELLED IT TODAY THE DAY BEFORE SURGERY.    — shrinkingardener (posted on May 8, 2000)

Call your insurance company immediately. The hospital may be in breach of contract with the insurance company if they refuse you. Your insurance company will be able to let you know if the hospital has to cover the service. Hospitals sign contracts stating they accept the agreed upon fees for service, I am not so sure they can then pick and choose which services they will or will not allow. Best of luck to you.

Oh gosh, what a let down. I know you're upset right now, but don't let it get the best of you. Being an insurance consultant, albeit property and casualty, I know the providers have a contract with the insurance company. If the provider agreed to provide services at the agreed upon rate, they are obligated to do so, no matter what the surgery is. Your first order of business should be to contact the insurance company. Explain what happened, then ask if there is another nearby hospital you can utilize. If not, they should be able to make a few phone calls and get your surgery rescheduled. Also explain to the insurance company that you knew nothing about the cancellation until the day before surgery .. AFTER you had completed 100's of dollars in pre-op tests. This should open their eyes to the practices of the hospital. If all else fails, please do not give up. I'm sure I could help you find legal counsel in your area who would be glad to take on the insurance company. Good luck to you. Email me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance.
