Question:
Anyone have Dr Husted of Nashville?
I am a little worried because he has not ordered a sleep study or any other tests. When do the drs do this? Surely not after approval. I don't want to have to wait until the insurance writes that they need it. I would rather already have it done to save time. Any thoughts? — Tracy H. (posted on May 6, 2000)

Hi Tracy, Dr.Husted is my doctor. I'm 3 weeks post-op. I don't believe he
requires you to have a sleep study. I had one done prior to my WLS but I
had it odered through my GP. All the test that Dr.Husted requires are done
within days of your WLS so that the results are as "new" as
possible. His staff are wonderful people to talk to about anything. Call
Vickie,Janet or Jamie at his office and they will explain everything to
you. I hope this has help you and GOOD LUCK!!!

I had Dr. Husted as well, after seeing my records that I supplied to
him with on my first consult. He told me what tests he wanted taken,
however, would wait until he received approval from the insurance
carrier, once that was accomplished, he wrote my PCP in Oklahoma and
ordered the sleep apnea test, pulmonary function test, and wanted
clearance from my heart specialist, (which meant thallium stress test,
and a Doppler test. Once he received all of those results he then
scheduled my surgery. By the way Dr. Husted is an excellent surgeon,
and truly cares about his patients. You made a fine selection on
surgeons he's absolutely GREAT!!! Check out my profile page for more
info.. ;-)

I have also picked Dr. Husted for my surgery. I think he is a great doctor.
When I went to him, he wrote a letter to my PCP and told him that I fell
into the high risk category for having sleep apnea. My PCP is the one that
ordered me a sleep study. Dr. Husted then sent in a letter to my insurance
company for approval. I haven't been approved yet but I am still working on
it. :) You made a wonderful choice in selecting Dr. Husted. I am fighting
hard with my insurance for approval because he is the one I want to do my
surgery. Don't worry, he will take good care of you! He may just want
approval first. Good Luck!

I am 1 week post op! Surgery was on May 1st. Dr. Husted's office said it
is ok to have surgery without the sleep apnea test (this after my ins.
carrier refused to pay for it). I just told the anesth. Dr. that it is
suspected that I have it, but did not have the test. It all turned out
fine.
