Question:
Is there anyone that has had the open RNY, that has been successful at keeping lost
weight off for more that 5 years??? I am afraid I will have this surgery and then regain the weight..Thanks — Karen P. (posted on February 28, 2000)

I had the RNY just over 13 months ago. But I started support group meetings
and we have a lady Judie that had the VBG 14 years ago. She lost 75 pounds
and within the past two years started gaining but only a small amount. Now
that she is in a support group it may be easy for it to come off again for
her.

Hi! I am 5 months post op... I go to a local support meeting and there are
about four people that come at least every other meeting and they are all
within 3 to 5 years post of and they all have done very well with
maintaining there weight.

Believe me, I had the same concerns. However, I'm at almost two years
(Surgery 5/99). Lost 100 pounds. Withing the last three months I've
gained about five pounds. Not worried, though, my BMI is still in lower
"ideal" range. Let go of that fear and believe in the miracle!

I am 5 years poist op and have gained back better than 50% that I lost.
I'm now looking into revision. In the surgery and my surgeon's defense, I
didn't have a good post op support system and a back injury held me back
from exercise.
