Question:
A number of people in the Jackson, MS area would like to form a support group.
Most of us traveled long distances to have our surgery, and find it difficult to get back for the support groups on a routine basis. Our group would consist of patients who had many different surgeons and, therefore, have different postop diets and instructions. If we found a group leader with extensive experience with WLS patients, could we make a group like this work? Does anyone have any experience with a "mixed" group like this? — Heddy-Dale M. We attend or host 7 support groups each month. Many of us have been done by
different doctors. Although post-op nutrition or exercise are often
discussed (with a wide range of opinions), there are plenty of topics that
are clearly the same for all of us. What it was like to be heavy, the
changes during transition, what we like best about being "less"
and the problems/joys of suddenly being though attractive in a world that
previously considered us eyesores! Having someone who is experiences in
WLS may or may not help your cause. No guarantees.
