I had the vbg 6/99 and am having a terrible time with cravings for sweets(ice cream). I also feel hungery a lot more. I know my staples are still intact but how do I get around this. I am so scared I'll go back to my old habits. Is this normal??? — R C (posted on February 6, 2000)

Hi Kourtney, It is hard! I went to the diabetic section of the super market
where i found sugar and fat free cookies.
not to many now! but they help kill the crave and make you feel like your
not totaly deprived. Make sure your getting your protein first! there is
sugar and fat free ice cream called eskimopie, it is good! they have
smukers chocolate
surup fat free and sugar free wow! just don't over do it.
there are alot of products out there that are more healthier you just have
to look and remember "moderation is the key" hope this helps.

Hi Kourtny! I had a VBG over 13 years ago and I still crave sweets. It's an
addiction for me. I have learned that when you eat sweets it spikes your
blood sugar levels very quickly. Soon after they come crashing down making
you hungry, tired, and craving more sweets. Sugar also reaks havoc with
your insulin levels making it very hard to shed pounds as quickly as you
would like. I don't eat sugar except for the occasional slice of birthday
cake at a party. It was very hard for me to stop eating sugar. I suggest a
gradual weaning of sugar. Try to eat high protien and low refined food.
When I want my sugar fix, I realley enjoy fat free/sugar free soft serve
ice cream. Dryers also makes a very good triple chocolate and cherry swirl
ice cream. They add no extra sugar. Sugar free candy is available at
Walmart. Some cookie and candy places (Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
& Aunt Bonnies) offer sugar free chocolate candy and fudge. I must warn
you though, they have a laxitive effect if you eat to much of them. I hope
that I've been of help in your struggle with sugar. Good luck and Good
health.
