Question:
I have tried the Designer Protein but I get very ill after taking it
Help! I am 7 mths post-op and haven't really concentrated on getting my protein in. I am now determined to do this. I purchased Designer Protein. I have used it with orange juice (unsweetened) or 2% milk or water mixing that with 1/2 banana and 2 frozen stawberries. The first week was good. Now into the second week, I get a slight headache with a stomach ache(almost like I ate sugar).I really get sick for about 30 minutes after drinking this. What am I doing wrong? — Renee C. Hi,
I use a protein from Puritans Pride catalog, it is vanilla flavored and
also a soy protein, but I mix it with non fat soy milk. I couldn't handle
the dairy products. And Orange juice has a lot of natural sugar. But the
main thing that helps is to mix it in a blender with ice cubes and drink it

sorry about the abrupt end.
Like I was saying I mix in a blender with ice cubes and drink it VERY
SLOWLY. Like maybe an hour for 10 -12 ounces. Hope this helps.

You may be getting too much sugar, total. Try it just with water &
ice, no fruit or anything. Also, there are LOTS of acceptable, tasty
proteins out there that will meet your requirements. Designer is just ONE
brand among many.

Hi Renee
It's probably the milk and/ or orange juice..even if you're NOT lactose
intollerant..both those products have enough sugar to make you dump. There
are lots of protien powders that don't use either of those products. I
cant use any type of milk (and I'm a proxiaml) and orange juice makes me
hurt soooo bad even now,.and I'm over 2 years out. Michelle Curran on this
site has a bunch of stuff available that doesnt taste chalky, and she's
glad to send you samples if you want to find something that works. Go to
her web site (www.vitalady.com) or e-mail her at [email protected]
Good luck!

I am 9 weeks post-op and have been drinking designer protein almost from
the time I was released from the hospital. I have had the same feelings
you described a few times. I finally realized that most of the time I was
mixing too much at a time, drinking it too fast or mixing too many other
things with it. For instance the banana, I cannot mix a banana with my
protein but I can eat the banana by itself with no problems. I can mix 2
strawberries with no problems but for the most part I use one scoop of
protein and 2/3 cup of skim milk and I have no problems. I drink at least
3 of these a day.

If you are mixing the protein with milk of any kind you run the risk of
dumping. It sounds like this is what you are experiencing. I would avoid
milk and take it easy with the bananas. Another protein powder that is
good is pro-blend 55. vitalady.com has some samples that they sell so you
can try different ones without buying the whole can.
