Question:
THE COST OF SURGERY

WOULD IT BE TERRIBLY RUDE TO ASK WHAT THE AVERAGE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR VGB SURGERY IS? I KNOW THAT MINE WILL BE HIGHER BECAUSE IT IS A 80/20 FOR THE HOSPITAL BILL.    — Mary P. (posted on July 16, 1999)

Mine looks to be around $1500, which is about 10% of the total cost.

My insurance covers at 80/20 split too because it is considered reconstructive surgery. I will pay about $3000 because I have an out of pocket annual Maximum.

Open RNY is about 20- 24k. There is a place in San Antonito that you can have the surgery for cash at around 15k. I went the route were my insurance has to pay for the gallbladder removal (had Test it was bad)and then I pay the rest cost 8k out of 23k total cost. My insurance did not pay any amount to with gastric bypass just the gallbladder.
