Question:
Does stape line ever heal?
With RNY staple line, does the wound where the stomach is cut ever heal or is the staple line relied upon to keep the gap open forever? Do most surgeons use an overlay of sutures to prevent staple line disruption? — Jeff T. (posted on June 16, 1999)

I got a copy of my op report and my husband's. They both indicated that we
had staples, sutures, staples, sutures, etc. Several alternating rows.
Most of our contemporaries have already had their disrupted their staple
lines. We're about the only ones left. And it isn't that we did anything
special! My surgery was almost 5 years ago. "They say" that the
further out you go without disrupting, the safer you are. If I have to be
opened for any other reason, I would rather have my stomach
transected--separated.
