Question:
Has anyone been approve for plastic surgery thru Aetna?
If so could you please tell if the rules are going to change next year. I am only 4 months out and I might need plastic surgery for the excess skin. — Erma D. (posted on July 28, 2004)

I was approved for a panniculectomy. I don't know if it will change, but
the requirements were a weight loss of > 100 pounds, and a panni that
hung to or below the pubic bone. I also had lower back pain which may have
helped.

Aetna HMO covered my breast reduction 100%, but I had to get (4) letters of
medical neccesity (1 each from my PCP, plastic surgeon, bariatric surgery,
and an orthopedist), and had to go thru 2 months of physical therapy to
make sure the back/neck/shoulder pain was not from weak muscles in my upper
back, but definitely from my huge hanging boobs, lol. Before WLS, I was a
46II, then after a 166lb loss, I ended up a 36G. The PS removed 4lbs and
took me to a 36C.
