Question:
I went grocery shopping today and came across a new brand of liquid calcium

It is a brand called Drinkables Liqiuid Supplements, and they have various multivits, coral calcium-but they have a brand called Liquid Calcium 3,(vanilla bean flavor) which has 600mg of Calcium Malate, 200mg of Calcium Citrate, and 400mg of Tricalcium Phosphate.-along with vit k,magneisum, zinc, manganese& vitamin D3, you take one ounce daily it gives you 1200mg of calcium, or they advise you to take 1/2 oz. in am and the other 1/2 in the evening---My question is has anyone heard of this brand? the only thing i'm worried about is the amount of total carbs, its 8grams.Isnt that too many carbs? since im a new post op (surgery 12/5)im afraid of dumping. Check out the website-www.drinkables.com,let me know your opinion--Thanks, stacey    — msstacey (posted on December 8, 2003)

I'm awaiting a surgery date, but I can tell you this is the best source or calcium you can get. My spouse (who is big into nutrition) raves about the quality. It tastes horrible (in my opinion), but since it is a good source of calcium I use it, and my MD thinks it's great.

Hi Stacey, I use drinkables and I love it. It is the citrate that most surgeons prefer and I just mix it in my protein drink. It actually makes my protein drink sweeter and more tolerable. I would suggest it to anyone. E...

hiya~ i would be concerned with the mix of calciums because calcium citrate is THE ONE that is most well absorbed and the other ones (the malate & tricalcium phosphate) are not going to absorb as well into your system so out of 1200 mgs (of which 400 would be citrate) you may only get 200 mgs. i would recommend you stick with a straight calcium citrate with magnesium and vitamin d. you need the magnesium and vitamin d to help absorption. there are several brands out there. i use blueberry flavor by Bluebonnet brand that i get at a local health food store. also, you don't want to mix your calcium with your protein shakes because there are only so many receptor sites in your intestine and the protein will be absorbed before the calcium. one more thing about calcium, the body only absorbs about 500 mg at a time so it's good to take it in split doses. i take my first 500 mg dose first thing in the morning then 30-45 minutes later i'll drink my protein shake. i then take another dose at night. that amount of carbs also seems pretty high. mine has 2.5 per 1000mg serving so i'm getting 1.25 g of carbs each dose. hope that helps, {{hugs}} kate
