Question:
THIS IS TO ALL POST-OPS THAT HAVE REACHED THEIR GOAL,
Im just curious, have many of you made a vanity purchase for yourselves since loosing all or majority of your weight, by vanity purchase i mean something really expensive(like $300.00or more for shoes or designer dresses,etc.. ) for only yourself that you wouldnt have purchased if you hadnt lost the weight? and did you feel guilty afterward? — msstacey (posted on November 5, 2003)

I had to buy all new clothes once I got near goal. It was exciting to
finally be able to buy clothes off the rack. Spent hundreds although didnt
buy anything expensive except on suit. That was 2 years ago they are
wearing out now. If I enjoyed shopping it could of been FUN. I really dont
like shopping.

Preop, I promised a reward to myself -- to buy something from Victoria's
Secret. Well, now 1 year post op (though not yet at goal) I fit into their
stuff, but haven't bought anything yet. Just knowing I can is enough of a
thrill for me right now. I have rewarded myself in little ways though -
pedicures, manicures.

It's very hard *not* to do this even when you know better. I love clothes
shopping now. I spend a ridiculous amount of time thinking about how to
coordinate things, because for years, I had a closet stuffed full of
clothes in sizes I couldn't wear (from yo-yo dieting). So there'd be many
8 outfits that I could wear at any one time (if that). Now, the closet is
still stuffed, and I actually freeze with indecision some mornings, because
everything in it fits.

I spent 800.00 at Eddie Bauer! I was so freaking excited that I could wear
8's for the first time in my life!!!! I put off buying clothes just so I
could do this once I quit losing. Then I lost weight and wear 6's now. :(
So that was a bummer.

I am almost at goal. 10 lbs away. I treated myself all along the way.
Professional hair cut, hair coloring, pedicures, manicures, jewerly and of
course clothes. I don't spend lots, just more than I would have before. I
now feel like I am worth it. Like another post I hate shopping. I thought
it would be so much fun if I could fit into regular clothes. Now it's to
hard. When I wore a 32 if it fit, you bought it. At a size 12 there is so
much that fits. To purchase a simple pair of black pants, I have to try on
14 different styles. Because I plan on having plastic surgery in a few
months, I still don't want to buy many clothes. I am going to splurge and
buy a black leather jacket with high heel boots to match, if I can find
them. Wish me luck!

I bought black leather pants at the Harley Davidson store. Who ever would
have thought I could do that!!! I'll tell you though, my most favorite
thing is getting a great buy at the end of season sales at Macys. As I
have said in my profile, if it's less than $20, it's fair game. I LOVE
having choices!!!!

Yeah, I spent $800 on a pair of boobs! (Insurance covered the lift but not
the implants; I paid for those HAPPILY!)

When I got under 200 pounds, I bought myself a pink saffire and diamond
ring, with the excuse that none of my rings fit anymore, and I don't want
to size them until I'm finished. I just today hit the 100-pound-lost mark,
and I plan to take myself, my niece (who's lost about 60 pounds on Weight
Watchers), and my sister (who's lost 40 pounds on her own), to a day spa to
celebrate our collective 200 pound weight loss. I don't feel a bit guilty
about any of it. To borrow a phrase from L'Oreal: I'm worth it.

I've spent way more than that in alterations for those nice clothes in my
closet that did not fit for years and somehow still don't fit, though now
they are too big, so off to be altered to fit. I could kick myself for not
paying attention in 7th grade home economics sewing class..sigh...

Yup - I bought a Burberry raincoat. I got it at the outlet, so half the
price of the regular stores, but still outrageously expensive. Their
vanity sizing is half the fun, I wear 14's and 16's in other clothes but
this is a 10! I do feel a *little* guilty about it, but really have no
great trouble rationalizing the indulgence, and at least I have been
wearing it a lot. They're not even that stylish any more, but it was
something I had dreamed about for the last 20 years so I decided to reward
myself. That was the biggest single purchase, but I've spent a LOT of
money on clothes and am thoroughly enjoying shopping. I've made a few
mistakes and am learning a lot; it's overwhelming at first having so many
choices and easy to get carried away...but it's also easy to find bargains
now. A recent favorite find is a tweed blazer I bought at a yard sale for
$5. I'm in total awe of the quality of clothes I can get for low prices
compared to the ugly, expensive junk that was all I could find in a size
32/34.

I bought a mink....I won't say how much..but it is warm and I need
something warm since I am cold all the time. I have a hard time making up
excuses why I need to wear it to pick up my kids from school though. just
kidding
