Question:
Has your spouse gained weight since your WLS?
My poor hubby who has been eating all my leftovers has gained about 20 pounds since my surgery in March. I was wondering if this has happened in other famalies as well? — Charlene W. (posted on September 27, 2003)

Yes! My hubby has put on around 20 also. In fact, I just brought him home
two pairs of jeans yesterday. He always wore a 40 waist. But, I bought
him a 42 knowing he had put the weight on. He was annoyed that I hadn't
gotten him a 40. I said "try them on". He did and they were a
bit tight! I know he was upset - but he still ate his ice cream later on
in the evening - which is just what I would have done too before surgery.
Does this weight stuff ever end?!

My husband has actually lost weight since my WLS. About two years before I
had surgery he found out that he was diabetic and lost around 100lbs. He's
maintained that off plus another 40lbs. He eats smaller portions and in
support of me he doesn't drink with his meals. People that haven't seen us
in a few year can't believe their eyes!

Mine, fortunately, has lost about 20 pounds, but he is SMO and not
considering having WLS. Since I want to be out more and not in front of the
TV and I don't want to buy cakes to celebrate 'Tuesday' anymore and we
don't have other junk in the house, he's lost it over the year since my
surgery.

My hubby lost 21 pounds since I had my WLS three months ago. I really dont
know why he lost weight. I think maybe he is not eating as much since he is
always watching to see how much I eat. LOL!!

He sure has! He's like a little kid in a candy store now since he can eat
his food and the rest of mine too. lol

He has actually lost weight since I had wls--so have my sons. We are all
eating healthier and try not to have him eat your leftovers--eat his food!
Good Luck!~

The first thing my surgeon stressed to us was not to give leftovers to our
spouses for that very reason! My spouse has actually lost weight. At
first it was because he ate less out of guilt because I couldn't eat! But
once I got us in a routine of having healthy meals, he has adopted some of
my habits. He drinks skim milk now, doesn't drink pop, eats more protein
and less carbs, etc. He wears a uniform to work similar to the UPS
uniform, and the other night he walked right out of his shorts and they
fell down around his ankles! If you have food left on your plate, sit far
enough away that hubby can't grab it and throw it in the trash before he
can get to it! Tell him you're doing it because you love him!

I've always been jealous of the way men can lose weight - they can just cut
coke out of their diets and drop 40lbs overnight! Giggle...

Try talking him into splitting a meal with you instead of each of you
eating your own meal. I think that'll work.
