Question:
Is there really a sugar free carnation instant breakfast?

I have only been able to find a "no sugar added" carnation instant breakfast. If there is a sugar free one can you tell me where to get it? thanks    — Jaime K. (posted on July 8, 2003)

Yes, there is a Sugar Free Carnation breakfast. I noticed it at Food Lion grocery stores. Protein supplements are expensive but I think it would be better to invest in a protein supplement with more protein/nutrition. Check out the numerous ones at Vitamin Shoppe and GNC (if you keep your receipt you can return opened items w/in 30 days). Don't skimp on good products for your new body.

I've only found the no sugar added kind too. You can add some powdered milk for extra protien too. Add it to foods and the CIB.....Jamie

Hey...not sure where you live but I know WalMart, and Meijer carry it. It is in a blue box in the cereal isle. They are pretty good...I do a pack of the CIB, 1/2 cup non-fat dry milk and 1 cup fat free milk for 29 grams of protein. I also buy Jarrow's soy protein and add 3 tablespoons of it and it gives you 25 more grams of protein!

Jaime - since there is sugar in the NSA CIB from the lactose, they cannot market it as "sugar-free". You want the Carnation Instant Breakfast in the blue package as some of the previous posters noted...JR

What you want is the "no sugar added". There is no such thing as sugar free because of the lactose or milk sugar in it. They have changed labels to indicate that sugar isn't added to foods that have natural sugar in them; they cannot label a food with natural sugar as sugar free.

No Sugar Added is what you're looking for. Their website www.carnationinstantbreakfast.com has a store finder so that you find where it is sold in your area. If you have a Kroger supermarket around I would suggest their brand of instant breakfast, cheaper and more protein.

If you have Kroger in your area, they have their "own" brand right next to the Carnation Instant Breakfast in the cereal aisle. They have a no sugar added chocolate that has 2 grams more protein per serving than the CIB. I can't tolerate any protein shakes I've tried yet, so this mix is helping me get in at least some protein. Plus I add 1/4 c. cottage cheese, 4 oz. milk and the milk, blend it well in a blender and sometimes add a few ice cubes. Since I'm only a little over a week post-op, getting in the extra calories from the milk and cottage cheese are not a problem. If I counted correctly, this mix comes up with 18 gr. protein.

I ahven't seen a sugar free Carnation Breakfast mixbut in regard to Protein shake. In a group that I belong to we discussed how to make the protein drinks more tasty. My suggestion is: I have the Pro Complex chocolate flavor. To make a shake that is very tasty I add 1 oz of protein mix, 1 cup of 1% milk (if you can tolerate milk), 4 strawberries, 1 tablespoon of Jello Butterscoth flavored sugar free instant pudding, two envelope of Splenda and 4 or 5 ice cubes. This is blended well in a electic blender until thick and smooth. It is reall quite tasty and you get 50 grams of protein. It is really great.

Yes, there really is a Carnation Instant Breakfast Sugar Free. I've been using it since my surgery. Although there are other protein drinks that are higher in protein, I like the CIB the best. I buy it in the grocery store (Shop Rite, Pathmark). You can also order it directly from Nestle on line and have it shipped directly to your home. Good luck!

You can find it in the Chicago area in Dominick's food stores. Try adding it to sugar free chocolate pudding made with lactose free milk and you have a snack that is great and has 13g protein per serving!
