Question:
Should I be considering Amusement Parks Yet??

Ok, this is a very important question (to me) and if anyone (everyone) has some input, I will gladly take it. My family is planning a trip to Kings Island Amusement Park the first week of August, so I have a month before I go. I currently weigh 306 lbs, will (probably) be under 300 lbs by the time we go...and I am in a size 24. King's Island does not display any weight limit information on their website, and yes I will call the park, but I need some REALY experiences. Please help, this is beginning to make me very nervous.    — thekatinthehat (posted on July 4, 2003)

I'm currently 310, but went to an amusement park at about 295. It was pretty hard to keep up the pace of all that walking, and I only went on a couple rides. I went on just one "good" ride which was a rollercoaster. At our size, the force of gravity (I think) has got to be affecting us more than my 100 pound daughter - I felt like I was being pulled apart. Like someone was pulling my head off with a plunger. I just barely fit into the ride and at one point I came off the seat altogether and my daughter didn't - I did not get on ANY more rollercoasters. We did go on some tame rides, like bumper boats which I am sure I looked hilarious getting onto that thing and off - and a water log ride which was VERY fun and not confining like the rollercoasters. You can still have plenty of fun even if the tight-fit rides are a little too intense at this point, in my opinion.

Hi April :) At only 6 weeks post-op and still 330 lbs, I had no problem going to Disneyland for a full day and night, walking over 10 miles total (per my pedometer) and going on almost all of the rides. I WAS a bit intimidated about whether I'd fit or not in some of the rides' seats, but I had no problem at all. I say go for it and have a blast!

At about 5-6 weeks postop I went to Disneyworld and went on a lot of the rides. I was about 275 then. I had no problems whatsoever. Only thing was I did get a little sore from all of the walking, so my husband had to rent one of those wheelchairs for a little while, but other than that we had a great time. Have fun!

i am 285 (5'10)-also a size 24 and have no problems at disney. however....i went to six flags a couple of wks ago and could not fit on 3 of the rides...HUMILIATING! i think the smaller amusment parks might be a tighter fit. i would definately call so that what happened to me, doesn't happen to you :) good luck!

Caroline I hate to disappoint you. Disney is a lot of walking but probably not anything near 10 miles. Pedometers work by the vibration of movement, and the rides are likely registering as walking.

I am 7 weeks post op and started at 291, currently at 243. Just yesterday I went to six flags over Georgia and rode everything without any problems. However, at my pre-op weight, I wouldn't have fit, and had a horrible experience trying to get on a ride and had to get off. I wanted to cry (and did for several days). It embarrassed me and my kids, and I really wanted to die. NOW...I want to ride everything there, and intend to do so. Like the previous posters said... call ahead so you don't have to experience what I did. Some of the rides have very narrower seats too, which even yesterday made it hard to fit my butt into (but I did). Take care and God bless.

Hi, April! KI season pass holder here! I can tell you this - last summer I weighed 236 lbs and was more or less "stuffed" onto Drop Zone. (Embarrasing!) There will still be plenty of things you can ride.I also can tell you that, at age 46, I went to Florida and did 3 parks with a high school marching band one month after I had lap RNY! I had a great time, no problems with any of the rides. King's Island has plenty of spots where you can sit and rest if you need to, and there is an air conditioned first aide station where you can cool off. Trust me, I have seen people WAY bigger than you riding stuff at King's Island! Have a great time! (Don't forget to bring your bathing suit and cool off at Water Works! The wave pool is great!)

Hi April! I just spend the holiday weekend at KI and had a wonderful time. I now weigh 247, size 22 pants, XL top. I fit on everything with absolutlely no problem. I am 5'9''. Several years ago, I had a bad experience on the Beast and basically had to be stuffed on there, and then almost got stuck on! I probably weighed about 330 then. I would say depending on how tall you are, you would probably be okay on most rides. Try not to worry and have a wonderful time!! :) Alli (RNY 1/2/03 -105 lbs)

Are you asking if it is safe to go, or if you will fit into the rides? I went to six flags mid-america for the last two weekends in a row. My surgery was 2/11/03. I was fine. The first ride that I went on I felt in me stomach more than before but I think a lot of that had to do with nerves...I was nervous about how I would handle the rides after surgery.
