I was recently approved through Aetna HMO and my BMI was under the required
40 at the time of submission. Mind you, not much under, but under
nevertheless. I wrote my own personal letter and had my doctor write one as
well. He also sent in my medical records. That was about all that they
required of me. I was approved about 4 weeks later. Good luck! and keep
your head up. Dont stop trying!

I was denied by Aetna last October for not having a BMI greater then 35
with major co-morbidities or over 40 for five years. My BMI for the first
two years was over 35, but I didn't have any major co-morbidities, and over
40 the last three years. I had to hire Walter Lindstrom to fight my
deniel, which took over seven months. It ended up going to an external
review board who overturned it.
