Question:
Here's a different question for the AMOS family.

Where did everyone who is post op go for their "last meal", and what did they have? And for the pre ops like myself, where do you think you might like to go and what would you like to eat? I decided I am going to go to Chi Chi's, and have fried ice cream. Just thought I would ask a fun question. ;-D    — Lisa S. (posted on June 26, 2003)

I had planned on going to Joe's Crab Shack with friends for my last dinner. However, a major snowstorm put a real roadblock in my plans. I had my surgery in a town about three hours from where I live and because of the weather, had to leave a day early for surgery. We barely made it to a motel because of the snow and ice so once we got settled, we ordered pizza from Papa Johns because they were the only place that would deliver. Wasn't at all what I had in mind. Strange thing is that I still eat at Joe's but almost never even taste pizza. And, I don't miss it either.

We went to dinner with some friends to Longhorn Steak House and I ordered the 16 oz Prime Rib and a baked potatoe with the works! Choclate cake for dessert. The hardest part for me is the fact that I may not be able to tolerate red meat after the surgery. I have always been a steak lover.

I last suppered till I was sick of earing. Like Anita I mourned the loss of steak. But guess what I have steak all the time. I am two years out in july, and first had porterhouse about a month post op cut into pencil eraser sized bits and chewed to death. Perhaps a one inch cube nice and rare. YUM. My last pre op food was a gooey chocolate chip cookie, eaten right before I took the bowell prep. I cried as I ate that. WHAT A WASTE OF WORRY. Post op I can eat anything! Thats a blessing and a curse. I do eat anything but do limit sweets.

My "last supper" was at TGI Fridays, and I had french onion soup, Jack Daniels chicken and shrimp, then we went to the ice cream place for sundaes. My last supper was a week before surgery though, as my surgeon requires a week of liquids before surgery. LapRNY 5/15/03 down 34 lbs. Good Luck to you :-)

My last meal...hmmm...I've been trying to decide where I want to go...I'm thinking of having two last meals, one just for my pleasure...Chinese Take-out...Sweet and Sour chicken, pork fried rice and veggie egg rolls...all by myself because no one else likes that...then probably when my mother arrives for my surgery, we'll go to Red Lobster or Chilis or Logans' Steak House...pretty much...anywhere that makes cheese fries and a good beer.

I had a few " last suppers" the strange thing is while I was still in the soft food stage the things I craved were simple things like peanut butter and jelly sandwhich and grilled cheese, I even craved a bologna sandwhich for a while. Isn't that funny I didn't crave the things I thought I would at all. I can not eat fast food anymore and I don't miss it at all. I do salads really well and I eat a lot of them especialy now that the weather is hot. You will be back to eating " normal " food soon. I am almost 6 months out and doing great!

My surgery will be on Tuesday and my doctor requires 48 hours of liquid only before, so my "last supper" will be at the local Chinese buffet. I have two coworkers who have had this surgery and the one thing they can not tollerate even now at 6 months out is Chinese food. I love their cheese wonton so I plan on getting my fill, just in case I have the same reaction. They do serve an assortment of food so I will be able to have crab legs, coconut shrimp, prime rib and whatever else they have that appeals to me that night. I am hoping they have their cream puffs on the dessert bar also.

I really "Last Suppered" it up for about a month before surgery - Montgomery Inn ribs, pizza, steak, Greater's ice cream, you name it. Funny thing is, most of that stuff I thought I would miss - I don't! I am almost 8 months out and haven't even desired the ribs or the ice cream or some of the really good "goodies" I had. I do have fond memories of enjoying that stuff back then!

I didn't have a "last supper" b/c my surgeon gave me one week's notice for my surgery (I was moved up when someone cancelled at the last minute); so in my final week, I had to go to the low-fat program (so that my liver would be small and out of the way for the laparoscopic RNY). I thought that I would be remorseful that I didn't have a chance to say goodbye to my dear old friend (and co-dependent mistress) food. But, I was happy to start a new chapter in my life in which food would not be the centerpiece.

I believed y'all when you told me that I would eventually be able to eat everything again (and, so far, that's true, except for peanut butter and pork), so I wasn't into the "last supper" mentality. However, as a show of support, my wonderful boss and staff insisted on taking me to a very good local steak house about a week before my surgery. I had a HUGE perfectly cooked tender steak, with salad and a baked potato (no dessert; I'd been diabetic for years, and pretty much gave up sweets long ago). I'm almost three months out, and have eaten steak and salad again (don't care for potatoes anymore, oddly enough). It was a lovely gesture on my coworkers' part, but I wouldn't have done a "last supper" otherwise. I don't even remember what the last few meals before my surgery were. If I'd known that I couldn't tolerate peanut butter after surgery, I might have had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

My last meal was at Cheesecake Factory where I had a cocktail, shared an appetizer, had an entree and ate the WHOLE thing and then had desert...of course! Today, I'd be lucky/happy to eat the shared appetizer alone. Jen, rny 11/12

Oh my last meal lasted about 2 weeks before my surgery. I love my moms cooking and so we went to here house two times before my surgery and she cooked all the good stuff for me and My Husband took me out to eat Chinese, I was so worried that I would not be able to eat it again so we went there. But Im now almost 3 months out and eating what I want and I have had Chinese food and it just dose not taste the same.:0)Teena~RYN-65#gone!

I had Dim Sum and I am so glad I did because even now at 11 months out I don't do well with Chinese food, too many carbs, especially white carbs. I had a BPD so I eat a lot of steak but carbs give me gas and the runs. Don't know if that will ever change but still trying to loose another 50 pounds. Good luck.

My dh and I went out for spicy Thai food. I had green curry chicken, panang curry beef, pad thai, thai ice tea, satay, galangal soup, lots of white rice... OK, now I'm hungry!! I also ordered chocolate covered cherries from Harry and David because these were my favorite candies. I ate them all myself too.

The friday before my surgery, my family and I are going to my favorite chinese buffet, because I've heard from many post-ops that they can no longer tolerate chinese. But I'm also definitely going to go to the Outback Steakhouse for the Alice Springs Chicken and a Bloomin' Onion! Yummy! And one last visit to the Cold Stone Creamery for Sweet Cream Ice Cream with almonds and chocolate chips. Oh and my former-chef hubby is going to make me his famous chicken fettucini alfredo. Gosh, no wonder I'm fat!! Good thing I've got 7 weeks until surgery so I can spread out my "last" meals!

I had a Fazoli's 1/2 orginal submerino sandwich with 2 glasses of diet coke!!!! I knew that I would never eat that much bread again and my surgeon does not allow soda of any kind. Turns out, I cannot tolerate ANY bread, any shape or form!!! So at least I have my memorey!!! But I really do miss soda!!!! I can tolerate most things, fired chicken strips, (popeye's-6 carbs each, just as an occasional treat), steak, pork, only eat the meat from chinese food. But mashed potatoes and bread are deadly for me. It is okay, I avoid all carbs anyway, stick to just 10 or less a day, don't even miss them!!!! Good luck to everyone on thier journey!!! God Bless!!! <><

New China...the best Chinese Buffet in the world! I love the Beef Pepper Steak with white rice, Sesame(sp)Chicken and purhaps some Sweet and Sour Chicken. I would also like to make it to the Olive Garden for their Fett. Alfrado, but I don't know if I will make it but if not that is okay. I will also be having some Turtle Cheese Cake. One or Two "last suppers" and that's it. Okay, I just lied, I also want some beans and winnies. I don't know why but that just sounds so good. That with some beef broth steamed/fried potatoes with onions (no oil, spray etc. used in this dish). Okay, maybe I'm done now...okay last (I hope) is an awesome salad. Minus the dressing as I don't eat that. Lots and lots of cucumbers too. Okay maybe that's it...hhhuuummmmmmm

Lisa, Fun question! :) My surgery is Aug 7th, & my pre-op diet starts July 21st, so I have been eating like every meal is my last supper! I'm so afraid of not being able to tolerate steak and chinese, so I'm getting as much of that as I can. I am SO looking forward to the 4th of July week carnival, where I'll have my last carnival food. I've had braces on for close to 2 years, so I've been waiting that long for corn-on-the-cob and carmel apples. It looks like that will never happen--my braces come off one week after my surgery. :( (Will I be able to go on not remembering my last corn-on-the-cob & carmel apple?!?!) My true last supper will be a humongous sirloin steak drenched in garlic butter, baked potato, salad bar & cheesecake from The Prime Quarter. I'm not much of a drinker, but for old time sake I will probably get annihilated, as well! :) These weeks are so bittersweet--I feel like someone has to die in order for someone to be born. I am mourning the death by eating like a razorback, but I am so looking forward to the re-birth. Best of luck to everyone--I'll see you on the other side! Audra

My "Last Supper" lasted all day long! LOL!! I had a big breakfast at home, lunch of Rancheros at a Mexican resturant, three types of chocolate I had never tried before, two sips of wine, crab legs, homemade turkey pot pie (I make great pot pies!), and a DQ Blizzard! Did I think I was never going to get to eat again, or what! LOL!

My surgery is Tues. This weekend I want to go out for a steak dinner w/ all the trimmings. And also have Marble Slab sweet cream ice cream mixed with strawberries and bananas. I have been going out for lunch every work day with my co-workers, "saying good-bye" to various foods. Know what? I am now almost sick to the stomach when I think of most foods. Can't wait until Tuesday...

My last meal was a pan of homemade Toll House Chocolate chip cookies (yes - most of the pan!) and a thing of Ben & Jerry's Apple Pie ice cream. Best part - it was for breakfast as I had to start my liquid diet at noon two days before my surgery! Imagine how I explained it to my kids!

I had my last meal last Tuesday at Ruby Tuesday's since I was starting clear liquids Wednesday for my surgery last Friday. Wednesday afternoon, after a day of clear liquids, my doctor's office called and said my surgery had to be rescheduled to this Thursday. So, I am going out for my "second" last meal at a Chinese Resturant Monday night.

I am glad you asked that question Lisa. I am Pre-op from Massachusetts. I have decided my "last meal" is going to be a seafood and lobster dinner. From fresh oysters, steamed clams and muscles, chowder and lobster.
