Question:
I would like to hear from anyone who has had a revision from a VBG to an open RYN.
I would like to know if the weight loss was slower. I need to lose 65 lbs to get to my goal weight. Was the recovery and surgery longer? — Tami R. (posted on June 13, 2003)

Hi Tami, I was revised from VBG to RNY last July 2. The actual surgery
lasted about 1 1/2 hours, even with a lot of adhesions to clean up. My loss
was slower, but now at almost a year out, I've lost about 85. It was very
slow in the beginning, I talk about it on my profile, but right now, I'm
very happy with this loss. And as for the recovery, it was just as fast,
but maybe I just heal fast. I had both surgeries open and was back to work
within 2 weeks both times. Good luck with your revision. Please e-mail if
you have any other questions.

I had a VBG in '98 and had it revised to a RNY Bypass 10/30/02. I am now
about 7 1/2 months post-op and have lost 102 pounds. My surgery time for
both was about 1 1/2 hours. My recovery for both surgeries went pretty
well. The second one was longer and I went through a couple of weeks of
the blues. But I am SO very happy with the results. I lost only about 70
pounds with the VBG and put a lot of it back on, for a net loss of about 26
pounds. When I had my RNY I was a size 22 and now I'm a size 8 or 10. I
am thrilled that I went through with the revision -- I wish you the best of
luck as well!
