Question:
Has anyone heard of Leptoprin?
I saw an ad on tv for Leptoprin diet pills and I want to try them. They do have some that are stimulant-free. Would these even be safe for an RNY person who is over 2 years post op? Just curious. Thanks, Shelley — Shelley P. (posted on May 6, 2003)

A quick lookup online shows this information: While most weight loss
supplements are designed for everyone, Leptoprin is specifically designed
for very overweight people and should only be used by someone with a BMI of
30 or more.
So if your BMI is down now it's probably not a good idea.

Shelley, I have heard of them briefly on TV, but don't know much about
them. And like the previous poster said, it's for people who need to lose
atleast 50lbs, and from what your profile said you didn't need to lose that
much more. And not to lecture, the choice is yours ofcourse, but diet
pills, although some pass through FDA, are usually unsafe overall b/c they
can speed up your heart rate and have some dangerous ingredients, even if
it is herbal (such as herbal ephedra). But especially b/c we are WLS
patients and have such sensitive stomachs, I would warn against something
like that. We're not even supposed to take advil or some are warned against
even pepto-bismol! So a diet pill could be really rough on the stomach-
cause ulcers, perforations, etc. So just be careful!

My doc says they're an excellent pill...and excellent pill for seperating a
desperate person from their money and water pills for the super-MO would do
the same thing. Sad.

You can look them up on any internet search engine. If you look under
forums or reviews (not testimonials), you will find that these diet pills,
while outrageously expensive, do not work. They are also supposed to be
guaranteed or your money back, but some are saying that they have not
gotten their money back. When is a diet pill worth $153.00? Never.
