Question:
Are shakes distributed by Health Management Resources (HMR) OK?

Elenor, I called them to check because I have some left over ones too. Here's the info on the Chocolate for the 800 calorie a day plan. Each shake has 160 calories, 16 grams of protein and 21 grams of carbs. There are 19 grams of sugar, but 16 of them come from lactose. So, they aren't faboulous in terms of the protein to carb ratio. I won't have them for that reason. Also, if you have problems with milk, you may want to choose something else. Good luck!

They are OK. Nothing spectacular, but palatable. It is the one recommended by my surgeon. His office gives his patients a variety of ways to make them. Mostly adding various flavoring extracts, or making pudding from them. Early on with very little appetite, they were sufficent, but boring since this was the only thing we can have plus clear liquids etc, for 4 weeks. I used no fat milk, and would add some soft fruit like a half of a banana for flavor. If you are using this exclusively in the beginning, they come with a multi-vitamin, and it is strongly recommended to take a potassium supplement. Good Luck.

Eleanor, I did those HMR shakes 4 weeks after surgery per my surgeon's request. I have no issues with them, they're good and have acutally been able to make them taste a little better, give them a little more pep... I added coffee, bannana you name it, I didn't have a problem with them... They even make chicken soup in the little packets from HMR, that are the same protein wise, it hasn't been that cold to try it as of yet... I have about 2 boxes of the soup... If you're interested I would be more then happy to send the HMR soup your way.... I'm trying to really wean myself off the shakes, and eat more solids latley, as it stays in the belly a little longer, I find that I'm not hungry, and more satisfied then with a shake... I'm acutally eating less but satisfied more.... P.s. you gotta try the capicinno myoplex lite, that protien is the bomb, and addiciting.. Let me know about the HMR soup, I'll send it your way.... Post op 9 months down 124 pounds.
