Question:
Has Anybody Been Denied Because Of Depression?
My ins. company, One Health Plan, has denied me because of depression....My PCP, surgeon and psychiatrist have all appealed on my behalf....but according to the Psychiatrist the appeal doesn't look good....Any body have any suggestions? — tampatider (posted on February 7, 2003)

I find that absurd. I take 300 mg of effexor a day. I hope I do not have
the same difficulty. My surgeon did not seem concerned. maybe this website
will help you www.obesitylaw.com. I am sorry to hear this and wish you the
best of luck.

THAT is ridiculous! I am depressed that I can't move around so well, that
my clothes don't fit as well as I'd like, I can't tie my shoes without
effort, my joints hurt, I have problem s with hygiene etc etc. Having this
surgery will make me less depressed. Good Luck.

Hope this isn't repetitive (my previous answer got stuck in cyberspace, I
think), but have you been receiving treatment for your depression? If so,
and the insurance company has documentation of it, shame on them for
turning you down for this reason. Obesity and depression often go
together. If you haven't received treatment, I'd get treatment --
hopefully you will feel *much* better, and then you can demonstrate to the
insurance company that you'll keep on top of your depression as a post-op,
too. Good luck and keep on fighting!

Keep fighting with the belief that you will get approval. If they deny it
again, call the WLS Law center. They've been great with many people.
Sending you hope.
