Question:
I am 2 mos. post-op, having a little problem with some foods,

as expected, but the truth is - I DON'T WANT TO EAT. I have to make myself eat. If I don't eat by the clock, I go until I get pangs in my stomach and then I have a problem with whatever it is I eat. Anyone else go through this? Is it permanent or temporary?    — Gloria P. (posted on February 4, 2003)

Hey Gloria. I, too, am having those problems. I never want to eat. I am about 10 weeks out (11-21-02) and can not eat at all. Things I used to love like tuna and chicken is out of the question. I now eat chicken veggie patties which I find are softer to my stomach and I have fallen in love with pickles and roasted peppers. I thought that stuff tasted like crap before. I am down 65 pounds already. It is temporary and we will get into a normal routine. I think it just takes some time for our newly found friend to adjust. (HOPEFULLY!) Good Luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had no appetite whatsoever for the longest time. And then once I kicked up my exercise level, I had a much stronger appetite. Enjoy this time now -- there will be times that you wish you could eat and eat like you used to. (I'm 8 mos. out)

It's temporary, enjoy the no appetite while you can! I know it stinks sometimes, but I am 8 months out and back to wanting to eat. For the first 6 months I had to force myself to eat, just like you do. And some foods will not agree with you, some do. And you will probably find that later on those foods you couldn't eat you now can. It's amazing how our tummies react to things! Goodluck to you, and even though you don't want to sometimes, make sure you do eat.

I am 9 1/2 months out, -102 (at 162#). I haven't wanted to eat since my surgery was scheduled. And I STILL don't want to eat. I have no idea when my appetite will come back. I have a huge support network of friends who are post-op with me who have appetites. Honestly, I don't know how they do it. My stomach has not growled once. I could literally go a week without eating... and have done that. I am not being a smart ass, just being honest. I guess I am okay with the way food tastes, and I enjoy cooking still, but to still down and eat does not really interest me. When my hubby asks me, "Are you hungry?" I just say yes because I know I have to eat something at a certain point if I want to keep my metabolism going, and keep losing weight. There have GOT to be other people out there with this problem. I just haven't seen that many people out there who will admit it. My husband thinks I am bullemic or something, but I honestly don't think that is it. I just don't FEEL hungry inside my stomach. Good luck!
