Question:
CAN YOU GET THIS SURGERY EVEN IF YOU HAVE THYROID PROBLEMS?

I don't know why she couldn't be approved. I am hypothyroid and don't
think that had any bearing on whether I could have the surgery or not.

hi there :) it was discovered that my cousin had thyroid problems during
some of her preop blood work and testing, this freaked her out cuz the
surgeon wanted to first try her on sinthroid ( probably spelled wrong) it
only helped a very small amount so she was still able to have her surgery
right around the same time she anticipated. i wish your friend the best of
luck :) p.s shes still takes her sinthroid post op.

Hi there
I have hypothyroidism and take synthroid daily also and am approved for wls
in Feb. I will have to take synthroid the rest of my life and of course its
important to get labs done every 6 months to ensure we are on the right
dose. ;)
Tell her gl for me!

I have hypo-thyroidism,taking synthroid and having surgery in a month.
Hypo-thyroidism does not affect if one can have the surgery.

Hello - I asked the same question a few months ago (my surgery is 3/3/03)-
the answer is yes- she can, but you have to prove that the Thyroid levels
are controlled to the insurance company - otherwise it won't be approved
until they TSH is within therapeutic range while on Synthroid. Good luck !
