Question:
Rather than pureed, is it okay to.......
just make sure to chew each bite until theres nothing left to chew? That to me is almost just like being pureed. — Karen W. (posted on December 18, 2002)

I don't know about your dr's guidelines, but not only did mine have to be
pureed it had to be consistent enough to run through a straw. I didn't
really follow his rules and chewed and chewed until my jaw was cramped. I
suggest you do what your dr says. I still have bad eating habits and it
just helped me maintain the bad eating habits. It's a fresh start now,
right? Good luck.

Hi there,
If I had to eat something from a straw i would prob throw it up. I never
pureed anything and did fine. I would chew and chew and chew. Which was
good because i still do this 8 months later. Good luck

Karen, I skipped the pureed stage too. Couldn't handle the thought of
pureeing my dinner. So I just ate soft foods and things that pulverized
easily during the puree stage and chewed well.

Thats what I did, cut everything into pencil eraser sized bits. And chewed
to death. Now I eat normally.

I could not stand the idea of pureed food. So from the beginning I just
chewed and chewed for fear of swallowing something too big. It quickly
became a habit and I still do it without having to think about it at all.
All in all, I think it has served me well. I rarely get anything stuck.
