Karen,
The G tube is a tube that is used to drain the contents of the old stomach.
I woke up with it after surgery, and it was hooked to a bag that drained
brown stuff, nurses said it was bile. The day before I was discharged,
they unhooked it from the bag and left about ten inches of it hanging out
of my belly. It was taped to my stomach, and it stayed there for twelve
days in total, six in hospital, six days at home. It doesn't hurt, mine
had a stitch attaching it to my skin. It is a bit annoying while dressing
or showering, but other than that it was fine. My surgeon says its purpose
after you leave the hospital is that if anything happened to you, they
could feed you through that tube because it goes into your old stomach.
Don't worry about the tube, take care of yourself, and good luck with your
surgery! You will be in my thoughts. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov. 4/02 -32
