A duodenal switch or DS as we call it, is another form of bariatric
surgery. The main difference between the DS and the RNY is that the DS
preserves the pyloric sphincter, the valve that regulates the flow of food
from the stomach and the small intestine. Therefore, one doesn't dump after
the DS. For a much better explaination, go to www.duodenalswitch.com. There
are also support groups on Yahoo. I had a DS 13 months ago at Mt. Sinai in
NYC. I've lost 119 lbs and am 40 lbs from my goal WT. I'm overjoyed with
the surgery. I can eat small amounts of everything, but must be sure that I
eat my protein first and take my supplements 3 times a day. Good luck!

Hi Kathy, we DSers are a small group but we sure do love our surgery! With
DS you can eat normally and never worry about regaining the weight. Since
you are in CA, check out http://gr-ds.com to discover two wonderful
surgeons in Delano, near Bakersfield.
