Hi! You are going to do fine before, during, and after your surgery!
Don't stock up big time for when you get home. You are going to be on
liquids for awhile, and you aren't going to be able to take in too much at
first.
I was given liquid pain med and liquid zantac to take home with me. My DH
filled the prescriptions a day or so before I was to go home so we wouldn't
have to stop on the way home. Also have chewable calcium and chewable
vits--- and sublingual B-12 on hand at home.
I drank protein shakes...if you get CIB make sure its sugar free. I also
had mashed potatoes with melted cheese, yogurt, and egg beaters for
protein. Cream of wheat went down well also, and baby food bananas.
Remember that a jar of baby food will last you 2-3 meals so dont stock up
big on that either. And one serving of cream of wheat will also last 3
breakfasts. I wasnt too fond of baby food meats or most of their veggies
or pureed meats.
My DH had a couple of little tables next to our recliner and I had all my
necessities within reach. Also had long tongs [like bbq tongs] beside me
for reaching things that dropped, etc. Also, my DH would set an insulated
pitcher of ice on one of my tables so I would have ice for my fluids. My
food got cold before I could finish it, so I got one of those baby food
dishes that holds hot water. But it was sort of a hassle....
You will do great! We are here to help and to reassure you any time you
need us!
Take care and God bless!

I would like to say calm down, don't worry, and everything else you are
suposed to say at times like this, but I am in the same boat. My surgery is
Nov. 18, 2002 and ditto on everything you said. Just remember to close your
eyes and take deep breaths when you are stressed out to the max. This is
the only thing thats getting me through each day right now.
Good Luck on your new life, I wish you a quick recovery.
God Bless you in everything you do.
