Question:
Anyone ever hear of the Risk Factor Obesity (RFO) diet?

Saw a news article on the actress on 'ER' who lost 100 in less than a year. Supposedly a liquid diet started at the UCLA called RFO. I've got me surgery scheduled and I have no intentions of not going through w/ it. I'm just suprised to be hearing of this for the first time seeing as this one indivdual had TREMENDOUS success. Before I saw the news report, I had assumed she had had WLS. Anyone hear of it before? Thanks!    — D W. (posted on October 5, 2002)

Hi, I haven't heard of the RFO, but I wanted to comment on the TREMENDOUS success that this actress had. I have had TREMENDOUS success (lost over 100 pounds in one year each time) with Atkins (1978-79), low- carb/high exercise (1981-1982), low- fat (1990-91) and Atkins again (1998-99). After each amazing weight loss I have regained not only the weight that I lost but many additional pounds. I believe that many obese people are some of the best dieters that there are, but...the weight keeps coming back. Look at Oprah... Hopefully this WLS will be the answer to this horrible merry-go-round of obesity. Good luck to you! (RNY/open/distal/transected 8/14/02)

Are you talking about Yvette Freeman? I tried her site (http://www.yvettefreeman.com/) but got a message "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later."

Sorry, you don't have me convinced. I've seen so many people go through Optifast when UCLA first started it. It's the same thing. I'm sure Ophra will be standing in line for this one too.... NOT!

Sounds like another go around on liquid protein "diets" Let alone Optifast - there was the "Stillman Diet" many years before Atkins. I tried them all (106lbs off on optifast) Yes- gained even more back each time. HOWEVER - I had a LAP RNY 9 MONTHS AGO. It has given me the jump start I had to have - It is still a struggle for me - but so far so good- I believe I will never be able to take 2 or 3 helps like before unless I am reversed (NO!). Pouch Rules For Dummies helps a lot. Just realize you have a brain to control your feelings. Do what is right and make your surgeon proud too!
