Question:
Anyone have revision

I had open RNY a year ago. I haven't lost enough weight so my doctor told me that he can go in and remove more intestine. I was transected and my pouch and band are both in good shape. I do have a lot of scar tissue, though. Has anyone had this done? Did it work? I am just as afraid of dying now, as I was the first time. "TERRIFIED!!" Is it more risky this time? Thanks for any answers.    — Shelley P. (posted on September 22, 2002)

I have some friends who have been revised. Mostly from VBGs. They were all completed LAP, although there was a risk of waking up a open. Its true scar tissue can increase the risks, but they all did fine. You are probably MUCH healthier than before your first surgery, and also know pretty much what its like. Your co morbidities are likely better as well. Your overall surgery risk is likely less than the first time. You know how you responded to anthestics etc. I think you should relax and get on with it. One question, have you tried vigirous exercise like 4 or more hours a day, consistently? I was near goal, plateaued out and lost over 10 pounds nearly as fast as right after surgery doing demolition and shoveling debris at a friends fire damaged home. This mght help you avoid surgery altogether.

I am intrested in knoiwing your Stats at the start and your stats now. Me personally was 54 BMI weight 297 5"3' 1 year post op DS I am 30 BMI weight 170. At my 1 year check up the Dr.s said I was a success. A BMI of under 30 was cansidered a success. Your BMI is that. I too have 40 lbs more to lose but it can be done. It is going very slowlly now. I wish you the best of luck. You are really close to goal I could understand wanting a revision if your BMI was stillin the high 30's and you seemed to stop losing altogeather.
