Question:
I have gallstones
and have to have my gallbladder removed during open rny - is the healing process longer? — Maria C. (posted on July 14, 2002)

Hi,
I had my gallbladder out at the same time I had my
open RNY on February 20th. I have nothing to compare it to,
so I am not sure if the recovery is longer or not. I also
have Lupus so that may have been a complicating factor as well.
All I know is that I am thrilled that the gallbladder is
out, no more attacks...that pain was the worst! And to be
honest, I am in no mood to go back in and have gallbladder
surgery now if it started acting up again with the rapid
weight loss...So whether it is longer or not, it is really
shorter in the long run because it will prevent the high
liklihood that you will need surgery to have it removed in
the future.
BEST WISHES to you!

In addition to having open RNY, I had my gallbladder removed and a
tubiligation. Yes, the healing time will be longer. You have had two
major surgeries in one fail swoop. Just take your time and let your body
heal. I am 7 weeks post-op (tomorrow) and am just now really feeling
human. My family spent this past weekend at an amusement park and water
park. I had lots of energy, but am now today sore and tired. I may have
pushed it, but don't regret it at all! Good luck to you!
